I always wonder why khakis are so popular. I have always looked at khakis as neither fish nor fowl. They are not dressy enough to replace a nice pair of trousers and I find them to be less stylish than a nice pair of jeans. I feel like people who wear khakis either aren’t trying, or have given up on looking good.
Even in a world where everyone wants to be unique, standing out as a well dressed and confident man (or woman really) can go a long way to attracting a mate, succeeding at work and making a good first impression. And as someone like me that has always had a bit of a baby face, the “Younger” I dressed, the less they gray hairs looked at me for credibility.
Khakis Serve no Purpose
And as may of us learn to be more minimal, khakis seem to serve no purpose for me. If I want to be casual, then a dark pair of jeans, a stylish shirt and dress shoes are the way to go. And if I need to go somewhere where I dress up, then a black or charcoal pair of trousers are the way to go.
Add to this, I find regular trousers to not only look nicer, but are much more comfortable to wear on a day to day basis. Whether we are talking about polyester (no not 70’s style) or a light weight wool, they stay cooler, lay nigher and feel nicer on the skin.
And contrary to popular thought, you can go casual with dress slacks as well. Pair it with a nice polo shirt or even a stylish t-shirt, and you have a casual style that doesn’t make you look like someone who has given up on caring how you look.
So what would I recommend the current bachelor get? One pair of stylish jeans, preferably darker color without holes, and 2 or 3 pair of trousers. I have more then this currently but the great thing is, they all last for years so i am not wasting money on new khakis.
So find yourself trousers that are comfortable. For every day, I like Kenneth Cole.
- Flat front
- Zipper fly with hook and eye closure

Something like this in Rayon and Polyester look better than khakis and will be comfortable in cold and hot weather.
For jeans, while they are the trendy skinny jeans, I like Lucky Brand Men’s 181 Relaxed Straight Jean, Dellwood, 36W X 32L relaxed fit like the ones I have linked.
Conclusion: Why I don’t like Khakis
What I am telling you is to take pride in how you look. You feel better, look better and the benefits are immense over time. My recommendation, buy 2 pair of dark trousers and 1 pair of jean. You now have a base to build off of. Change the shirt and the tone of your outfit changes. A long sleeve shirt with french cuffs, professional and stylish. A simple polo shirt, much more casual, a t-shirt, stylish at the next concert. What do you think, what kind of pants do you wear on a daily basis?
