Whether you are just getting done with college, or just getting your first apartment, I always advocate getting a few things for your apartment to make it your own. This helps me claim the place as my own (as if all the rent you pay doesn’t make it yours already), but also set up your place to get the most out of it. We are talking about comfort and relaxation, as well as keeping you motivated to keep moving forward. We also want to make sure we keep things as efficient as possible so you are not wasting your time on the little things.
3M Command Strips
I think these things are the greatest invention int he world. I use them for everything. I hang pictures of them on the wall. And because you are literally sticking it on the wall, no guessing where to put the nail. I mount my magnetic knife strip in my kitchen. Want to mount your internet router on the wall so its off the floor, you guessed it, 3m Command Strips. They are so versatile and the great thing, when you decide to move, no holes to fill, they just pull off the wall with no residue. Get yourself a big box of them since you will use them a ton. I also recommend getting the large ones since you can always cut them down to size. For example, I cut them in half for one picture frame that had thin bezels. It worked great.

New Shower Head
The first thing I do is go on Amazon and order a new shower head. I have yet to move into an apartment that doesn’t use the cheapest, lowest power shower head available for $7 at the local convenience store. I need my showers. In fact, living in Hawaii, because it is always so hot, we take multiple showers a day.
But for me, my shower in the morning is how I wake up. I let the water rash over me and figure out what I am gonna do for the day. I have lived in apartments with horrible showers and I spend the rest of the day grumpy. But even a $30 shower head can make a huge difference. The key thing is to look for one that allows at least 2 gallons per minute. Anything less and again, you feel like it’s not giving you enough pressure. Even the expensive ones that say they add air to make it feel stronger, it doesn’t. This one below I just ordered. It gives up to 2.5 gallons per minute and because its Moen, it has a lifetime warranty.

A White Board
I have come to appreciate a white board in my office or right by my desk. I use technology solutions every day but sometimes having a big reminder of what you need to do, keeps you on track. They even have white board paints but what I have found is best is the stick on the wall white boards. I currently have one that is six feet wide and 4 feet tall. It is fantastic for daily reminders or even diagramming in a bit way a new business idea or marketing plan. They are great for keeping track of your workouts as well, especially if you work out at home.

Why these three?
I have found these three items to be the most versatile items I get when i move to a new place. The shower is pure luxury but gives me a ton of utility. The command strips, make it easy to decorate and mount things that need to be mounted, and the white board is an integral part to my business process. I find it to be even more important than a couch and a TV since I spend more time on my computer than anything. What do you think? What is your big three items that should be bought?
